Inaugural city NolaStat meeting begins new era for New Orleans city government
Dear NolaStat supporters,
The very first NolaStat meeting in the City of New Orleans took place last Thursday. NolaStat is now an official city program focused on results-oriented government.
The inaugural BlightStat session focused on Mayor Landrieu’s goal of eliminating 10,000 blighted or vacant properties in three years. BlightStat meetings will be held every other Thursday at 1340 Poydras, 9th floor, 8 - 9:30 a.m., and are open to the public.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the first BlightStat meeting, as I made other commitments before the announcement was made.
Meanwhile, Landrieu administration officials described in many different ways how stat-driven leadership and performance metrics will be instituted throughout City Hall at budget hearings.
For me, this is the fruition of nearly three years of advocacy work, and twelve years of thinking about performance management in government operations that started when I supported the NOPD Comstat process under Chief Pennington and (then) Deputy Chief Serpas. None of this would have been possible without citizen support for the NolaStat platform. In the end, you are the true beneficiaries of better government.
Thanks to all of you for your dedication, perseverance, and hard work, advocating for a more open City Hall that works for its citizens. Mayor Landrieu has heard the message. This is just the start of great things to come for the City of New Orleans, and I am confident that in another few years, people around the country will see New Orleans as a model turnaround city, and an shining example of good governance.
Kind regards,
Brian Denzer

[...] but it was so popular that I couldn’t get in! That’s ok – all the information is online. Mayor Landrieu is pursuing a strategy called “blightstat” that aims to eliminate 10,000 blighted properties in the next three years. http://nolastat.org/blog/2010/11/12/news/inaugural-city-nolastat-meeting-begins-new-era-for-new-orle… [...]
