Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley has been awarded the 2010 National Technology Champion Award from the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO).

During the course of his career in public service, O’Malley has championed the usage of data analysis and data mapping for performance management, first as Baltimore’s mayor in a program called CitiStat that was widely emulated in cities across the U.S., and later as governor in supporting the creation of similar prog…rams called StateStat and BayStat.

As Mayor of Baltimore, O’Malley pioneered the CitiStat process, reducing waste in city government by $350 million, while improving the delivery of services to Baltimore residents.
