Congratulations Mitch!

By Brian Denzer

mayor100206The election of Mitch as mayor with 66% of the vote was a landslide. In the election map completed for NolaStat (3 MB PDF), it’s clear that Mitch won every precinct except for one near Lake Catherine where Georges picked up 12 votes to get the majority. The attached map clearly shows that Mitch won support from a broad base of voters, who sent a signal that we won’t allow our diversity to be turned against us as a weapon to destroy our common dreams. We are stronger when we work together toward shared goals.

Congratulations are due as well to all of the other candidates who ran for the office. All contributed courage and good ideas to the discussion about how to lead the city forward. In particular, we should offer special thanks to Troy Henry, Rob Couhig, James Perry, and Leslie Jacobs, who were all extremely receptive to NolaStat performance management and open government ideas.

Not to be left out, we should recognize the willingness of husbands, wives, and significant others, who shared the grinding schedule, strategizing, and stress of the candidates. Spouses provided the best way to get a better understanding of the character of candidates, and without exception, their influence reflected well on the them.

Ultimately, NolaStat is about turning the page and changing leadership in City Hall to build a better city. We can now turn our attention to Mitch for leadership in enacting the NolaStat agenda.

There will be more maps and analysis of other races to follow.

It’s time now to get some rest before the Saints kick off at the Super Bowl XLIV !!!

    Brian,

A beautiful map to wake up to this morning! Thanks for putting it into perspective to clearly and forcefully. Cliff commented elsewhere that this new day of unity will last only as long as the new mayor delivers on promises. Let’s hold Mitch to that, but let’s also give him the opportunity and our support to do what needs to be done. When you’re left to clean up the mess left by others, you have to wring out the mop a few times before you can call it clean.

    Peace,

    Tim
