Listen to the City Council District A candidate forum
Hosted by WVUE reporter, Lee Zurik. The District A City Council candidates are Jay Batt, Virginia Blanque, Suzie Guidry, and Fred Robertson.
Candidate messages consistent with a NolaStat reform:
- Virginia Blanque offered that a new police chief should exercise the best practices learned from other cities in combatting the crime problem in New Orleans, link strategies to measurable outcomes, and compare New Orleans crime reductions to benchmarks set by other cities.
- Suzie Guidry repeated a common frustration expressed by current District A Council Member Shelley Midura. The NOPD should come up with a strategic plan for reducing crime, establish performance measures, and have outcome data, so that the public can understand what’s working.
Lee Zurik had a long day fighting a cold — earlier substituting for Eric Asher on WIST — but maintained an affable composure.
